Broken is Beautiful

When we hear the phrases “Once Upon a Time” or “Happily Ever After” … the pictures that come to mind are often the animated sort. Maybe even an illusion where one dreams of days past as to how life was supposed to be. Even then, the fairytales of old present the idea that it is possible ~ but the path to get to that point is full of perils, villains and sword fights ~ in short … they are stories about brokenness.

The real story is that when God brings two imperfect people together in a relationship … there will always be brokenness. It is experienced on a day to day basis simply because of the human nature we must live with on this side of eternity. But … within that brokenness there resides a truth that holds a treasure … Broken can be beautiful!

It carries with it an air of humility when reflecting over all that has happened since it’s owners stepped foot on the property. It IS true … “Once upon a time” can happen when two people realize that brokenness is the sometimes the best way to start life together. The owners of the farm know that a wonderful day in life can contain starry eyed moments with a love that is new and budding like a tender rose on a trellis . But they also know the tomorrows will hold moments where digging in deep cultivates the kinds of love that will hold true in spite of the thorns encountered along the way. Yes, there will be scars … but perspective helps one see that they are there to help point to the faithfulness of God.

The psalmist says it best … “God ~ You did it! You turned my deepest pains into joyful dancing; You stripped off my dark clothing, and covered me with joyful light. You have restored my honor. My heart is ready to explode, erupt in new songs! It’s impossible to keep quiet! Eternal One, my God, my Life-giver, I will thank You forever.” Now that, dear friends, is “Happily Ever After!
